An Interview with Kim Carmichael

The second book in your Indelibly marked series, Temporary was released recently, What can you tell us about it?

Temporary follows the story of Shane’s best friend, Ivan, in Permanent and Shane’s sister, Emily. The two have been having a secret affair and Emily wants to take it to the next level. With Shane home with Lindsay during her pregnancy the responsibility of the tattoo shop falls on them and the shop gets hit with a law suit. It was a fun write because you still get to see what happens to Shane and Lindsay but you get to move on with a new couple.

Two of your books( Interchangeable and Trifecta) have a polyamorous or menage element to it, which is starting to feature in a few more books, what was the inspiration for you to write about it?

For me these stories are total fantasy. I love the thought of wanting two men and not having to choose and somehow it can all work.

You’re not an author who sticks to one genre within the romance realm. Your stores have different elements to them. How important is it to you to not just stick to one theme?

I think as long as you are inspired a good story will result. My theme would be a happily ever after, be it in the paranormal or contemporary world. There is something to be said for building a brand, but there is something else to be said for going with your muse.

Even though indelibly marked is part of a series, each story is in fact a stand alone that is connected by the Elliot family and the Tattoo shop, did you find it easier to write them like this instead of having them as a continuation on the previous book?

I do find it easier. For me once I have given my couple their HEA, their story is complete. For me, while I love to follow my characters, I find I love doing it while another couple takes the foreground.

To date you have released 10 books, do you have a favorite among them?

Yes, but its not released yet :-) I am finishing it now and will probably have some sort of melt down when I hit send to my editor.
Of the ones release, I am very partial to Trifecta. it not only represented a fantasy, but I was allowed by my publisher to tell the story the way I wanted it to be told and personally the story represents freedom in my life.

This questions ties into the last questions, do you have a favorite character in your books?

Yes, I will tease and say it is the hero in the book I am currently finishing but since thats a terrible answer, of the books released, I will say it is a tie between Ivan Harlow from Temporary and Dolan from The Promise who was a demon who wanted to be bad fell in love.

Do you have any current works in progress that you can tell us about?

I have yet another menage coming called Pieces of Three that is paranormal, and I have just finished a sci-fi menage short. I have two contemporary romance series as well.

What has been your favorite part of writing and publishing books?

Hands down writing the books and plotting them and just letting the muse take me and then starting to get fans who see what I see.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

Johanna Lindsay, VC Andrews, Sascha Illvych and Solera Winters

In 10 words or less tell readers why they should read your books?

You will have a great time!

Is there anything else you would like to say to your fans and/or readers new to you?

Thank you for embracing me and taking a chance. I promise I will always try my best to keep it fun and entertaining. At the end of it all, I want my readers to smile.
