An Interview with L.E. Maguire
Congratulations on the release of your newest book, Picture Perfect, what can readers look forward to in this story?
Thank you! With Picture Perfect there is humor, love, heartbreak, and a strong bond of friendship between Ember and her best friend, Jake. Unlike my first two books, which were strictly contemporary romance, Picture Perfect would be categorized as a sexy romance within the contemporary romance genre. In other words, there’s sex. ;)

The Hart of Seattle series, Starting Over and New Beginnings, were you first two release. It follows the story of Ella Martin and Xavier Hart, and their whirlwind romance. what did you love most about writing these books?
Creating the whole fantasy world is exciting, and I really enjoyed doing that, as well as creating the characters and their personalities. With these books in particular, I got very attached to Xavier and Ella, mainly because they were my first literary couple.

You released your first book, Starting Over in July 2013, has your approach to writing changed or evolved since then?
Most definitely, I think. But with writing there is always something to learn. I have taken a few more writing classes since I wrote Starting Over and I’ve become a member of the Romance Writers of America association, which offers conference workshops and online classes.

I’ve noticed that your female leads, Ella Martin and Ember Whitfield have a love of photography, similar to you. Does having a photographer's eye bring a different approach to storytelling for you?
Perhaps, just a bit. I have always had a tendency to write with detail, but I often look at my writing the way I would look at a beautiful landscape or the full moon glowing in the dark sky. I want my story to move me emotionally the way those beautiful sights do.

You did have a bit of a time gap between your last book, New Beginnings and Picture Perfect, in a book world where authors come out with books at a frequent rate, how important was it for you to take your time with Picture Perfect?
It was very important to me that I take my time. I’m not worried so much about quantity as I am quality. I want to be able to produce characters that are relatable, and I want the reader to be able to place themselves within the story and see what the characters see and feel the emotions that they are feeling, and for me, that takes time. Life also has a way of interrupting at times and it’s usually in the form of two small boys who are my grandsons, of which a third was born this past November.

This might be hard but of all the books you’ve written so far do you have a favorite?
That is hard, but if I had to choose, I would say New Beginnings is my favorite. Ella not only grows emotionally in the story, but a lot happens with Xavier and Ella as a couple.

My next questions tie into above, It is another tough one. If you had to pick your favorite male character from your books, who would you pick?
Xavier for sure. He’s your hot, fairly young and powerful CEO with alpha male tendencies, but he has a heart of gold and absolutely adores Ella.

What can we expect to see from you next?
I’m currently working on a book that involves a heavy metal band and two women photographers from a popular heavy metal magazine, who spend the summer touring with the band. I haven’t decided if this is going to be series yet, but the book I’m currently working on revolves around Randee and the lead singer of the band, Alec. Like Picture Perfect, this book would also be categorized as a sexy romance.

Who are some of your favorite authors?
Stephenie Meyer, Nicole Edwards, Sylvia Day, Olivia Cunning, Kylie Scott, and my latest indie obsession, Tommy Crown.

What do you hope readers take away from your books?
Well, domestic violence has touched my immediate family, which I tied in to Starting Over as Ella having suffered years of being verbally abused by her ex-husband. So, one thing I hope they walk away with is knowing that matter how much you may have been hurt, you can find happiness, you can trust again, and you can have a healthy, loving relationship.

In 10 words or less can you tell readers who are new to you why they should read your books?
I write about real people in real life relationships.

Is there anything you would like to say to your fans and/or readers new to you?
Thank you!! I know there are a lot of choices out there in not only the romance genre but in the indie community, and I appreciate each and every one who has shown interest in my work and taken the time to read it.
